Mika Brzezinski was caught in the middle of a PR mess Wednesday morning after comments made on “Morning Joe.”
Mika was venting how she feels about Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, when suddenly a controversial word slipped out of her mouth to describe him.
In a clip that instantly went viral on social media, Mika can be heard saying, “Why doesn’t Mike Pompeo care right now? Are the pathetic deflections that we just heard when he appeared on ‘Fox and Friends,’ is that a patriot speaking or a wannabe dictator’s buttboy?”
She added, “I’m dead serious. I’m asking, are these the words of a patriot?”
Soon after the incident, a man on Twitter called her out and said, “[Mika Brzezinski] just asked if Mike Pompeo is a “wannabe dictator’s butt boy,” as homophobic a term as I’ve heard on national morning television. @MSNBC tried and failed to censor it, and did not transcribe her remark in the closed captioning. #journalism”

After the program, Mika saw the tweet that had circulated to thousands of people and apologized to viewers and Senator Dick Durbin, who was on the set at the time of her remarks.
In her statement, Brzezinski said, “SUPER BAD choice of words. I should have said ‘water boy’… like for football teams or something like that.. apologize to @SenatorDurbin too! SO SORRY!”
