Israel has blocked congresswomen Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) and Ilhan Omar (D-MN), denying their entry to Isreal as both representatives support the Israeli movement known as Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS).

The Israeli government made a last-minute decision to ban Tlaib and Omar from entering the country ahead of their “planned visit” that was scheduled on Friday.

President Trump reacted on Twitter ahead of Isreal’s decision to block the Congresswoman.

“It would show great weakness if Israel allowed Rep. Omar and Rep.Tlaib to visit. They hate Israel & all Jewish people, & there is nothing that can be said or done to change their minds,” the President wrote on Twitter Thursday. “Minnesota and Michigan will have a hard time putting them back in office. They are a disgrace! Representatives Omar and Tlaib are the face of the Democrat Party, and they HATE Israel!”

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu released a statement: “No country in the world respects America and the American Congress more than the State of Israel. As a free and vibrant democracy, Israel is open to critics and criticism with one exception: Israeli law prohibits the entry into Israel of those who call for and work to impose boycotts on Israel, as do other democracies that prohibit the entry of people who seek to harm the country.”

“In fact, in the past the US did this to an Israeli member of Knesset, as well as to other public figures from around the world. Congresswomen Tlaib and Omar are leading activists in promoting the legislation of boycotts against Israel in the American Congress,” he said. (Continued Below)

Benjamin Netanyahu continued, “Only a few days ago, we received their itinerary for their visit in Israel, which revealed that they planned a visit whose sole objective is to strengthen the boycott against us and deny Israel’s legitimacy.”

“For instance: they listed the destination of their trip as Palestine and not Israel, and unlike all Democratic and Republican members of Congress who have visited Israel, they did not request to meet any Israeli officials, either from the government or the opposition. A week ago, Israel warmly welcomed some 70 Democratic and Republican members of Congress, who expressed broad bipartisan support for Israel, which was also demonstrated a month ago in a resounding bipartisan vote against BDS in Congress,” Netanyahu added.

Ilhan Omar responded to Israel’s decision to deny her and Rashida Tlaib’s entry to the country claiming, “Trump’s Muslim ban is what Israel is implementing, this time against two duly elected Members of Congress.” (Continued Below)

Dana Loesch, former spokesperson for the NRA, posted Omar and Tlaib’s itinerary where it clearly shows they chose to refer to Israel as “Palestine.”

Losesh said, “Such a diplomatic embarrassment by two people who wanted to embarrass a US ally. How long are congressional Democrats going to excuse this nonsense? These women could have joined other congressional members on an Israel trip a week ago, but good faith wasn’t their goal. They wanted controversy and attention, period. So embarrassing for their party.”

Sen. Chuck Schumer wrote on Twitter defending Omar and Tlaib: “Denying entry to members of the United States Congress is a sign of weakness, not strength. It will only hurt the U.S.-Israel relationship and support for Israel in America. No democratic society should fear an open debate. Many strong supporters of Israel will be deeply disappointed in this decision, which the Israeli government should reverse.”

Loesch responded to Schumer: “Respectfully, the two congressional members who repeatedly make anti-Semitic remarks and abuse their positions to promote BDS is what harms the US-Israel alliance. Democrats need to stop excusing this embarrassing behavior.”

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez put her two cents in and wrote, “Netanyahu’s discriminatory decision to ban members of Congress from Israel harms int’l diplomacy. Visiting Israel & Palestine are key experiences towards a path to peace. Sadly, I cannot move forward w scheduling any visits to Israel until all members of Congress are allowed.

Loesch also responded, “It was a provocative stunt with no intention of either good will or diplomacy. The anti-Semitic members of congress will now use it as a way to legitimize their pre-existing bigotry.”
