Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) on Thursday reality checked Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and other Democrats by suggesting they were “outraged” over the death of Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani.

This comes after President Trump ordered the attack that killed the Iranian military mastermind, the head of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ elite Quds Force that was killed in an airstrike at Baghdad International Airport Thursday night.

Senator Cruz responded first to a tweet in which Rep. Omar called on members of Congress to step in and prevent President Trump from engaging in armed conflict with Iran.

Rep. Omar tweeted: “So what if Trump wants war, knows this leads to war and needs the distraction? Real question is, will those with congressional authority step in and stop him? I know I will.”

The Texas Senator responded to Omar on Twitter asking: “According the the [sic] Obama Department of Defense, Qasem Soleimani was a terrorist directly responsible for the murder of over 500 US service men & women. Why are congressional Dems outraged that he’s finally dead?”

Senator Cruz also defended President Trump after former president Barack Obama’s speechwriter, Ben Rhodes, wrote on Twitter: “Trump may have just started a war with no congressional debate. I really hope the worst case scenario doesn’t happen but everything about this situation suggests serious escalation to come.” (Continued Below)

“Perhaps it would have been a better idea to send him $1.7 billion in unmarked bills, in pallets on planes in the dead of night, so he could kill more Americans?” Senator Cruz asked Ben Rhodes.

Rep. Omar, in turn, responded to Senator Cruz to claim the Commander in Chief is “possibly setting off another war without Congressional authorization”. (Continued Below)

“We are outraged the president would assassinate a foreign official, possibly setting off another war without Congressional authorization and has zero plan to deal with the consequences. But of course you know that,” Omar responded to Cruz.

Rep. Omar also tweeted a quote in which Senator Cruz, President Trump’s former opponent in the 2016 Republican primaries, cast doubt on Trump’s ability to lead. “I don’t know anyone who would be comfortable with someone who behaves this way having his finger on the button. – Ted Cruz, 2016,” Omar wrote.

Then, she criticized President Trump in another tweet, indicating that he was doing what he predicted former President Obama would do with Iran: start a war. “This reckless mind is now leading us to war!” she tweeted, including a picture of President Trump’s previous tweets that democrats are using to float around social media.
